Transhumance

Derived from trans — “across” — and humus — “earth” — Transhumance evokes the idea of a passage through the Earth: our journey, our destiny, and our place within it.

This series explores the dualities that shape human existence: space and time, free will and determinism, life and death, hope and despair, the ephemeral and the eternal. Through the subtle interplay between man and earth, these images portray humanity as a fragile and transient presence moving across a world whose immensity and permanence far exceed our own.

Yet they also speak of a deeper longing — a sense of belonging not only to the Earth we inhabit, but also to the sky that calls to us. Between the two lies a horizon, a beam of light, sometimes improbable, that unites earth and heaven. Humanity stands suspended between these realms, forever drawn toward an unreachable line that is at once near and infinitely distant.

Echoing Baudelaire’s Albatross, these photographs embrace the tension between earthly existence and spiritual aspiration — feet anchored to the ground, while the soul reaches toward the heavens.

More than landscapes or portraits, these images are invitations to contemplation. They encourage the viewer to reflect on the meaning of life and to reconsider what truly matters. Hope remains present throughout the journey, but it resides elsewhere — perhaps at its end, where death is no longer perceived as an end, but as a form of liberation and a continuation of being.

In these photographs, opposites merge, boundaries dissolve, and certainties fade. Black becomes white, the tangible becomes elusive, and the world reveals itself in all its mystery and ambiguity.
